CM Uddhav Thackeray inaugurates five oxygen plants set up using CSR funds | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday lauded the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for trying to become fully self-sufficient in providing medical oxygen for patients in its hospitals.
“Mumbai and (Covid) waves have a close relation. We have to prepare for a new wave as soon as one wave recedes. We all had to fight like fighting a war for oxygen during the second wave. To avoid such a situation again, the BMC is setting up oxygen generation plants and becoming self-sufficient in terms of medical oxygen. This is a matter of pride,” Thackeray said.
Thackeray was speaking after inaugurating new oxygen generation plants set up at the civic run Kasturba, Bhabha, Cooper and Nehru Centre in Worli which has been turned into a Covid centre. BMC officials said that the plants were set up using Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds and would together generate 6.93 metric tonnes of oxygen. Thackeray inaugurated the plants via video conferencing.
Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, and BMC chief Iqbal Chahal were present for the event.
“Rather than us, our work should speak. Just as the ‘Dharavi Model’, of covid management is now known all over the world, the ‘Mumbai Model’ of oxygen management has also been appreciated all over the world. The credit for this is not mine but the hard work of the entire administration, all doctors and nurses. The time when the administration stayed up all night and shifted about 170 patients is remembered as oxygen stock was not available. The administration worked as if it was fighting a war to ensure all the patients were safe. It was an unusual achievement that not a single patient died due to lack of oxygen during the entire second wave of Covid,” CM Thackeray said.
