If you got caught doing something not so nice (telling a lie, making a bad choice, forgetting something important, etc.) how would you like to be treated?
I would like a little forgiveness, understanding, and grace. I’m OK with acknowledging wrongdoing and accountability, but it’s all in how it’s said. “You little turd, I can’t believe you forgot to pay it again!” is hard and hurtful. “Hon, you forgot to pay the electric bill? How can we set that up so it doesn’t happen again?” acknowledges the wrong, but is more understanding and looking for a creative solution.
The next time your hubby does something not so nice, ask yourself how you would like to be treated in the same situation and treat him likewise.
I give grace because I so desperately need it. Lysa Terkeurst
