Amid the surging cases of COVID-19, Black Fungus and White Fungus, there are reports that the third wave of coronavirus will be challenging, especially for kids. However, AIIMS Director, Dr Randeep Guleria has refuted these allegations.

Dr Guleria said, “There are no indications that the third wave of COVID-19 will infect children severely.” He was answering a question of risk to children during the third wave while briefing the media on COVID-19 today.

Although, experts are not yet certain that a third wave will ever come. Dr Guleria further mentioned that there is not enough evidence that the third wave is going to predominantly affect the children.

“The ace receptors to which the virus binds itself to the human cells are relatively less in children as compared to adults,” he said.

As of now, the impact among children is mild. It has been witnessed that they do not require hospitalisation. Similarly, their symptoms may not be present after some time.

To curb this further, the government has issued guidelines on how to treat COVID-19 cases among children. On the same side, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to vaccinate parents of kids under the age of 10 so that they do not get infected by their children if the latter contract the virus.
