In the continued drive against illegal encroachers, eviction operation was carried out in Borduar Reserve Forest under Kulsi Range under Kamrup West Division on Thursday.

Forest personnel with the help of the administration dismantled two illegal structures and cleared 1.5-hectare forest land.

Forest officials said plantation will be carried out on the cleared land during the coming Vanamohtsava.

Meanwhile, Minister for Environment and Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya said no one will be allowed to encroach on forest lands, wildlife sanctuaries and national parks across the state. “Eviction will be carried out if anyone is found encroaching on forest lands, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, biosphere reserves and other protected areas,” he said, adding that the government will adopt a zero tolerance policy against encroachments on forest lands and other protected areas.

Suklabaidya said those who have encroached upon forest lands and other protected areas will not be spared and those eyeing forest lands to desist from such acts. “We cannot allow encroachments on our forest lands as they serve as oxygen concentrators and also put the lives of our present and future generations at peril,” he added.
