When you have a car, there are several things you can do to keep it in good running order. Buy good quality gas, check fluid levels, keep jumper cables in your trunk, that sort of thing. When something sounds funny or an engine light goes on, you take it in to have a mechanic look at it (or you might look on YouTube for fix-it help if you are feeling particularly mechanical). This is all no-brainer stuff, right?
Let’s talk marriage.
When you are married, there are several things you can do to keep your marriage in good working order. Have regular date nights, talk through your disagreements, create a good budget, that sort of thing. When something seems off or you have a running problem you can’t seem to solve, you make an appointment with a marriage counselor (or you might read a good book on the subject and talk to a wise friend). This is all no-brainer stuff, right?
Marriage is no different than any other problem we face. Be smart and practical. Do what you need to do to keep your marriage healthy and strong.
Even though a marriage is made in heaven, the maintenance work has to be done here on earth!
